Review: The Last Werewolf

The Last Werewolf (The Weres of Europe, #1)The Last Werewolf by Jennifer Denys
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What do you get when you place a teacher between a banker and a mechanic? When they are also werewolves bound to the moon, a story that's hotter than hot!

Summer Harrison is a half-human half-wolf shifter whose mother died when she was young, leaving her father heartbroken and Summer without a mother's love and instruction. She adores her father; he became the most important person in her whole world. Even though he never talked about her shifting, she's learned to live with and accept her wolf half. His eventual death left her bereft and alone, without a pack or family to support her, and Summer now believes she is the last werewolf alive.

While going through her father's personal papers she discovers a yellowed envelope addressed to her, containing a letter from her Grandmother in Finland. She realizes the woman is probably long since dead, but she still feels the need to travel to the village in an attempt to connect to her mother's homeland and search for any remaining family. Along the way she meets Rikhard Linna whose sexy eyes and warm laughter ignite an instant connection like she has never felt before.

Rik, who is also a halfblood, feels the attraction as well, but is confused by his emotions. You see, Rik is bisexual and has already met his mate, a full blooded prime alpha by the name of Leevi. Unfortunately, he and Leevi were unable to reconcile their differences, as his pack's refusal to accept a halfblood as their leader's mate created tension their love could not overcome. Rik eventually left Leevi and has been emotionally adrift ever since, heartbroken over the loss of his mate.

After sharing a night of passion, Rik discovers Summer is heading towards Leevi's home town. Afraid that she might be caught in the middle of a dangerous pack war, Rik chases after her and reluctantly contacts Leevi for assistance. Summer now knows she's not the only werewolf in town and finds herself in desperate need of rescuing, for trouble seems to follow wherever she goes. Shocked to discover that they are bonded as a threesome, a vicious fight for survival ensues, as Leevi's leadership is challenged and they must face the consequences of their choices.

A fast-paced, entertainingly written, and well-edited story, THE LAST WEREWOLF by Susan Laine and Jennifer Denys is a wonderful addition to the Lifting the Veil series. An erotic paranormal adventure with action, drama and a steaming hot M/F/M ménage à trois, this dynamic story has a full cast of characters that are engaging from start to finish!
